Grid Critters v0.4
Whack-a-mole on the coordinate plane! A critter pops up at a point
somewhere in the four quadrants. Type its complete ordered pair —
parentheses and comma included, like (2,-5) — before the timer runs out and it
floats away on a balloon. Every catch makes the next critter quicker!
Grade 6 · 6.NS.C.6b & 6.NS.C.6c — Graph and find points with rational-number
coordinates in all four quadrants of the coordinate plane. Recognize that the
signs of the numbers in an ordered pair tell you the quadrant: right/left of the
y-axis decides the sign of x, above/below the x-axis decides the sign of
y — and the x-coordinate always comes first. Points on the
axes (a 0 coordinate) show up too. Higher levels change the axis scale —
counting by 2s, then by a mystery number with labels hidden — so students must read the scale
of a graph, not just count squares.
